Note, all standard litre prices are those quoted by www.milkprices.com and are based on the following:
The liquid standard litre 4% bf, 3.3% protein, 30,000/ml Bactoscans, 200,000/ml SCC, 1 million litres a year on EODC but before seasonality, monthly profile payments, balancing, B price additions, capital retentions or annual incentive schemes. The manufacturing standard litre is to exactly the same specification with the exception of 4.2%bf and 3.4% protein.

MCVE goes over 40ppl to set another record

Both MCVE and AMPE set record highs in December according to AHDB Dairy Figures.   AMPE now stands at 44.7ppl (+2.42ppl in the month) MCVE now stands at 40.98 (+1.76ppl in the month) AMPE (Actual Milk Price Equivalent) is an indicator of the factory gate value of a litre of milk used for butter and skimmed milk powder MCVE (Milk for Cheese Value Equivalent) ais an indicator of the factory gate value of a litre of milk used for mild Cheddar and whey powder/butter.

3ppl milk price increase for suppliers to Pensworth (liquid) – from 1st February & 1st March

Roddas rarely feature in the bulletin and when they do its always for a positive reason and good news story. This time it’s their 2020/21 financial results which in addition to paying producers a leading milk price saw profits before tax rise from £1.784m (2019/20) to £2.161m. Roddas is the Country’s favourite clotted cream with over 55% market share.

Barry Wilson RIP

Barry Wilson the founder of both DIN (Dairy Industry Newsletter) and British Dairying (1993) passed away peacefully at home on Christmas Day.  Of his 83 years he spent more than 60 shining a light on happenings in the UK and indeed the World Dairy Industry particularly at processor and retailer level. For decades his questioning, which some referred to as interrogation, was feared by many and certainly more then Andrew Marrs Sunday morning questioning of MP’s and the like.
