The Market – increases across the piste in September.

Butter, SMP, Mild Cheddar & Cream prices in September all increased significantly between 2% to 4% according to AHDB. In addition, both AMPE & MCVE increased with AMPE + 1.81ppl in the month from 51.32p (Aug) to 53.13p (Sept) – see table at the top of this bulletin. MCVE +1.86 ppl in the month from 52.06p (Aug) to 53.92 (Sept) Spot milk is trading in a range of 55 to 58ppl Meanwhile according to the latest halfway point forecast from AHDB Dairy GB milk production is predicted to hit 12.

0.9ppl milk price increase for farmers supplying Wyke Farms (cheese) – from 1st November

This increases producers manufacturing standard litre to 50.12ppl and based on a liquid standard litre to 48.4ppl. The increase comes in two parts with 0.4ppl via constituents and a further 0.5ppl addition to the Wyke Farm Quality Standards.

1 euro cent/kg (0.56ppl) milk price increase for Arla members – from 1st October

This increase applies to Arla conventional members with its Organic price standing on at 55.69ppl a difference of only 4.78ppl. The increase would have been 0.88ppl were it not for the exchange rate quarterly adjustment which has negatively impacted to the tune of 0.33ppl on both Conventional and Organic members. 1.5ppl milk price increase for suppliers to Llaeth Cymreig (Welsh Liquid) – from 1st October

This increases producers liquid standard litre price to 48.5ppl including the loyalty bonus

GDT up a further 2% to average US $4072 tonne.

Todays GDT saw average prices increase for the second consecutive prices increase for the second consecutive auction. The total tonnage sold totalled 26,106 (27,217) with the total number of bidders 169 (174) winning bidders 113 (112) Notable movements were WMP up 3.7% to average US $3733 tonne. Cheddar up 2.1% to average US $5147 tonne.

1ppl milk price increase for Organic Milk Supplying Members of OMSCO – from 1st October

This further increase results in a liquid standard litre price of 51ppl including all bonuses.

£1.75 million investment by Belton Farm (cheese)

Shropshire based farmhouse cheese maker Belton Farm has announced completion of a £1.75 million investment in its cheese cutting and packing facilities at its HQ in Whitchurch. The project facility arrives as Belton celebrates 100 years of cheese making.

This increases producer’s liquid standard litre price to 48ppl and based on a manufacturing standard litre to 48.625p.

0.67ppl milk price increase for Co-operative (CDG) aligned suppliers from 1st October

This increases the liquid standard litre price to 47.67ppl for the Muller based group and would be 48ppl were it not for Sainsburys lagging behind at 47ppl.

This increases producer’s liquid standard litre price to 49ppl.

Total number of milkers down by 1%

According to BCMS GB milking herd numbers fell by 17,000 equivalent to a 1% drop in the year to July 2022.
