OMSCO loosing producers

During January Ian was contacted by five OMSCO members all of whom have decided that based on the current OMSCO farmgate milk price and its rather “foggy outlook”” they should exit Organic and find a conventional processor.  This is a very tough call but appears to now be necessary following OMSCO’S whopping but necessary price correction in the Autumn, coupled with horrendous cost inflation which they cannot absorb.  Those located in South West England appear to have options compared to those in the North where options are limited but are slowly starting to emerge as doors open.

Like many farmers their prayer mats point towards Leeds whether that’s for an Arla conventional or Organic contract.

Curiously Organic sales performed well during lockdown and prices are firming as is demand consequently some UK processors are actively driving Organic sales.
