Calls for Red Tractor Chairman to Stand Down Immediately

There are loud calls for Baroness Lucy Neville-Rolfe to immediately stand down as charman of Red Tractor following her surprise decision to effectively vote for lower food standards.

It’s a jaw dropping decision by the Baroness, who on Tuesday voted against Lord Curry’s amendment to include powers in the new Agriculture Bill aimed at protecting British farmers in a post Brexit world from floods of cheap food imports produced to lower standards.

The Baroness then proceeded to cement her position by voting against Lord Gromchester’s amendment which aimed to strengthen food standards for imported food with the aim to ensure any imports meet the UK Red Tractor Standards as a minimum.

The NFU’s will be bouncing at the revelation. All involved in UK Agriculture assumed it would be automatic she would support both amendments. In Ian’s view her excuse isn’t worth putting in print it is so limp.

If the Chairman of Red Tractor can’t support and defend good standards who can? There are very loud calls for her to do the honourable thing and step down immediately as in before Monday morning.

One leader from the Dairy Industry described her positioning as “putting a final nail in Red Tractors Coffin”

Mrs Neville Rolfe has never been shy of poking farmers with her stick. She is one of the few speakers to be publicly mocked at the NFU conference in 2008 when she insisted Tesco’s £1.99 chicken was good for the UK Poultry Industry.
